What is Testing?

Process of exercising a product/sample and analyzing its resulting response to check whether the product functions correctly or the sample overcomes the process criteria is known as testing. A test is an experiment carried out on a sample or ‘testpiece’ of the material to be studied, and whatever results it gives are peculiar to that testpiece or series of testpieces.

The Objective of Testing

Usually routine tests are carried out to establish whether a piece or product meets the requirement of a specification. The figures derived from the test not only point to the precise properties to compare with others obtained from a different supplier or with those given by earlier lots from the same supplier, but also help to compare alternative materials. Another object is to provide information in the form of numerical values for the use of designers and engineers, and for works managers to enable them to adapt their processes and techniques to novel products.
